Many people searching for deceased relatives or ancestors will see the place of death as 'Honiton', however, this is not necessarily where they were buried. The old Honiton Civil Registration District covered some 40+ surrounding parishes stretching from Hawkchurch and Chardsotck to Beer and Branscombe and literally was the 'District' where the death was registered (where they died). Each of the listed parishes was covered by the Civil Registration District of Honiton between the years as listed and whilst some remained straight through from when Civil Registration came into law (from 1837) some were only covered for a couple of decades. After 1998 the Honiton Registration District ceased and was absorbed under a new district of 'East Devon'.
